Employment Opportunities

Care workers can be employed by the Health Service Executive, voluntary agencies or by private organsiations.

Care work offers lots of opportunities for further training and career advancement: senior care work, nursing and management are all positions that care workers can aspire towards.

Once a care worker completes compulsory skills training, it is possible to specialise in a particular area. Employment opportunities exist in the following areas:

General hospitals (including in specialist wards and in theatre)
Nursing Homes for older people
Day Care Centre
Respite Care Services
Community Care in the client's own home
Personal Carer employed by voluntary organisations (e.g. The Irish Wheelchair Association and Alzheimer's Association)
Special Needs Services
Mental Health Services
Nursing Agencies
